COMMON THEMES - Ritual ploughing

Ploughing the concrete pavement of the village main square is an act performed in a variety of carnival settings, and it is found at the main core of the ritual. A representation of sowing and harrowing the soil often does follow, as a clear indication of the original agrarian nature of carnival as a yearly rite to ensure fertility of soils and good harvests.
